FOREWORD

The Royal Air Force offers great opportunity for sporting expeditions, some of which I have had the privilege to take part in. It also offers personal development, facing challenges.
Project Albert has taken me into a world which has wiped away many preconceived ideas concerning the developing world and given me a life-changing experience by taking me into unchartered areas and deep into African culture. The characters in this report such as Harmon Parker and Sam Harrell have made Bridging the Gap and Africa Exchange their lives work. They allowed us to work alongside them and due to the trust and friendship built up with Flight Sergeant Eddie Brophy the RAF now has a unique opportunity to work with some of the poorest tribes in the Maasai and Pokot.
In extreme temperatures and a fierce climate with wildlife around the personal determination is driven by a dignified people whose lives are driven by love, friendship and tribal traditions, some of which we may not agree with. Their capacity for hard work was always evident and so their desire to progress with education. Project Albert is one way to help for many years to come.
I was both honoured and privileged to be a part of the 2006 Team. I would challenge anyone who is willing to face hardship to go to Africa with an open mind to offer what we take for granted and work, to give to people who are grateful to receive whatever Project Albert has to offer by skills or support. Read on, share this great experience and consider helping.
