Project Albert continues to defy the cynics by carrying out ambitious work in unlikely places to help some of the poorest people in the world. The alliance between Project Albert, Africa Exchange, Lights for Learning and Bridging the Gap has never been stronger, and there is much work still to do together.
Project Albert has delivered fabulously since its conception almost 7 years ago, but none of its remarkable achievements would have happened without two magic ingredients: Firstly and most importantly money. Delivering a project as described in this document is the easiest and most enjoyable part, the hard bit is generating the funds to be able to turn these wonderful ideas into realities. Countless people have devoted much time and effort into dreaming up money spinning ideas from swimathons and rowathons to pudding and badge sales. Therein is the only criteria for selection to participate in what for many turns out to be a unique journey of a lifetime. The second ingredient is character. I repeatedly roll out the statement that Royal Air Force people all too frequently underestimate the motivation, durability, stamina and initiative of our ever dwindling numbers. A Priest, a Junior Officer and two Techies constituted this years team. A smattering of technical expertise between us and some expert guidance from Sam and Harmon has yet again brought marvellous results. The latter stages of this report are written whilst in Basrah and here, in this unusual environment I am surrounded by people with the same spirit I see in team members on the plains and in the bush of Africa; it is real, tangible, you just have to recognise it, then harness it. A healthy inquisitive nature, a developed sense of adventure and an overarching will to succeed are sometimes all that you need to reach your goal, oh did I mention money too? If you have read this far through the document without dozing off then thank you, there s a great deal more to read on our website too. If you would like to go on the adventure of a lifetime or simply become involved at any level, then I urge you, please take that first step and make contact by any of the means below.
