Kenya is located on the equator, in eastern Africa, and is bordered by Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and the Indian Ocean.

This country became a British protectorate in 1895, a colony in 1920, and then gained independence in 1963. The population is estimated to be approximately 31 million, many of whom suffer the devastating effects of recurring drought in the dry season and, subsequently, flooding during rainy seasons. In the city of Nairobi, sixty percent of the population live in slum communities. That’s about 2 million people!
